View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] Kolon E&C, a modular construction subsidiary of Kolon Global, and Staco, a modular construction specialist company, announced on the 13th that they have signed a comprehensive business agreement (MOU) to expand the modular construction business.
On this day, both companies agreed to actively carry out capacity enhancement projects in the OSC (OFF-SITE CONSTRUCTION) field by combining Kolon E&C's modular construction execution capabilities with Staco's modular technology and R&D capabilities. They also decided to join forces to reduce labor costs at construction sites, shorten construction periods, ensure work safety, and improve durability through modular construction methods. Modular construction is an eco-friendly building method that reduces carbon dioxide emissions and construction waste and allows for the reuse of modules.
Through this agreement, both companies announced that they will collaborate across the modular construction business, partial modular business, and the OSC construction field to improve construction productivity and secure future market leadership. Kolon E&C will conduct joint technology development to expand and pre-verify various modular construction methods, provide technical support in construction for demonstration tests for industrialized housing certification, and play a role in joint business activities for domestic and overseas business expansion.
Kolon E&C was established as a subsidiary of Kolon Global in July last year and has constructed negative pressure wards for COVID-19 patients based on modular construction technology and OSC technology. The negative pressure ward at Seoul National University Hospital was completed from design to construction in 22 days using a stacked modular method, and the National Medical Center was completed in 48 days with a three-story scale applying the infill modular method.
Staco has construction achievements in various locations by applying modular manufacturing methods of stacked and infill construction methods, including Cheonan Dujung District Happy Housing, Baengnyeongdo Happy Housing, Incheon Airport, and Yeosu Capsule Hotel. It also holds several patents and test reports related to industrialized housing certification, fire resistance, sound insulation, and thermal insulation.
