According to the Jeonnam Provincial Council on the 13th, the Operations Committee Chairpersons Council held its 9th regular meeting the day before in Cheongju, Chungbuk, and elected Chairperson Jeon Gyeong-seon as the president of the council.
This is the first time in the history of the Jeonnam Provincial Council that Chairperson Jeon Gyeong-seon has been elected as the president of the Operations Committee Chairpersons Council, with a term lasting until June 30 of next year.
The Jeonnam Provincial Council is celebrating a double honor following last year when Chairman Kim Han-jong was elected as the president of the Council of Chairpersons of City and Provincial Councils.
Newly appointed President Jeon Gyeong-seon said, “The Operations Committee Chairpersons Council played a significant role last year in the passage of the full revision of the Local Autonomy Act through the National Assembly,” adding, “We will actively respond to joint issues by utilizing the nationwide network of the Operations Committee Chairpersons Council and work closely with the Council of Chairpersons of City and Provincial Councils to prepare follow-up measures in accordance with the revision of the Local Autonomy Act.”
He continued, “Although the full revision of the Local Autonomy Act marked the beginning of the era of Autonomy and Decentralization 2.0, where local governments lead national development, many challenges remain to achieve true local autonomy,” and added, “I will work even harder with the chairpersons of operations committees of metropolitan councils to make this year the first year of a new leap after 30 years of maturation of local autonomy.”
Chairperson Jeon Gyeong-seon is a two-term member of the Mokpo City Council and was elected as the 11th provincial council member in the June 2018 local elections. He served as the chairperson of the Health, Welfare, and Environment Committee in the first half of the term and is currently serving as the chairperson of the Operations Committee in the second half, actively engaging in legislative activities.
