Quantum Duel: Lee Holds Slight Lead Within Margin of Error
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] A survey revealed that former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon is more competitive than former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl within the margin of error in a hypothetical one-on-one presidential race.
On the 13th, Asia Economy commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion poll from the 10th to 11th targeting 1,011 voters aged 18 and older nationwide (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response). The results showed that former Prime Minister Lee's support rate was 43.7%, 2.6 percentage points ahead of former Prosecutor General Yoon, who received 41.2%.
This is the first time former Prime Minister Lee has overtaken former Prosecutor General Yoon within the margin of error. In the previous survey conducted in the third week of January (1,009 men and women aged 18 and older nationwide, sampling error 95%, confidence level ±3.1 percentage points), former Prosecutor General Yoon surged to 46.8%, while former Prime Minister Lee fell to 39.0%. However, in this survey, former Prime Minister Lee rose by 4.7 percentage points and former Prosecutor General Yoon dropped by 5.6 percentage points, reversing their positions.
The areas of advantage were also clearly different. By gender, former Prime Minister Lee led among women (47.7%), while former Prosecutor General Yoon led among men (47.1%). By generation, former Prime Minister Lee received majority support from those in their 30s (51.0%) and 40s (61.9%), while former Prosecutor General Yoon received majority support from those in their 60s (58.7%) and 70s and older (54.2%).
Among Democratic Party supporters, 82.3% said they support former Prime Minister Lee, while 84.0% of People Power Party supporters said they support former Prosecutor General Yoon. Although the difference is slight, the level of consolidation among People Power Party supporters appeared stronger than that of the Democratic Party.

This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting targeting voters aged 18 and older nationwide from the 10th to 11th, with 1,011 respondents and an overall response rate of 7.5%. The survey method was wireless ARS using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers, and the sample was extracted with weighting by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting).
