Trump Leads as Top Republican Presidential Candidate in US Conservative Group Survey
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] It has been confirmed that former President Donald Trump still enjoys overwhelming support among conservative voters in the United States.
According to a survey conducted at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a major event for American conservative groups, Trump received the highest support as the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, Bloomberg News reported on the 11th (local time).
The CPAC event was held in Dallas, Texas, from the 9th to the 11th, and a survey was conducted among attendees. Among the respondents, 98% said they supported Trump.
When asked who they would support as the Republican candidate in the next presidential election, 70% chose Trump. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ranked second, but his support rate was only 21%, showing a large gap with Trump. The gap between Trump and Governor DeSantis widened compared to the CPAC survey in February. At that time, Trump's support rate was 55%, while DeSantis's support rate was also 21%.
In a survey excluding Trump as a candidate, Governor DeSantis took first place with 68% support. Next was former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with 5% support, ranking second. Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., along with Texas Senator Ted Cruz, recorded 4% support.
In an interview with Fox News aired on the 11th, Trump did not hide the possibility of running in the 2024 presidential election. Trump indirectly hinted at his candidacy by saying that the anchor already knew his answer about running but could not disclose it due to election finance laws.
When Trump gave the closing speech at the CPAC event, 4,000 attendees shouted "Four more years," expressing their support for Trump's re-election.
