[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun (Governor Kim Sun-ho) announced on the 9th that it will promote the expansion of the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling Certification, which allows consumers to easily verify the use of domestic kimchi, amid growing consumer concerns about imported kimchi.
The county plans to actively promote the certification, aiming to designate more than 90 locations within the county, starting with the county office cafeteria certification, and visiting educational institutions and major tourist food streets to accept applications directly on-site.
The "Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System" is a system in which the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling Committee certifies restaurants or food establishments that either receive kimchi made from 100% domestic ingredients from producers or make and use it themselves.
This system is managed by the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling Committee, composed of five private organizations including the Korea Kimchi Association, which issues certification marks after reviewing applicant businesses and conducts annual inspections to verify the use of domestic kimchi for re-certification.
Governor Kim Sun-ho said, "Recently, consumer interest in safe kimchi has been increasing," and added, "Through the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System, we hope many restaurants participate so that tourists visiting Gurye-gun, the mecca of eco-friendly agriculture, can enjoy kimchi with peace of mind."
Meanwhile, the county plans to register numerous restaurants within the area and designate days for using restaurants that serve domestic kimchi to accelerate the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling Certification.
