President Moon to Convene Special Metropolitan Area Quarantine Inspection Meeting on the 12th (Comprehensive)

[Asia Economy Reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in has ordered the convening of a special quarantine inspection meeting on the 12th, attended by metropolitan mayors of the Seoul metropolitan area, in relation to the application of social distancing Level 4.
Park Kyung-mi, spokesperson for the Blue House, stated at a briefing at the Press Center on the 9th, "President Moon instructed the convening of a special quarantine inspection meeting for the Seoul metropolitan area during today's staff meeting."
The meeting chaired by President Moon on the 12th will be attended by metropolitan leaders of the Seoul metropolitan area: Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul Special City; Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province; and Park Nam-chun, Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City. From government ministries, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, Minister of the Interior and Safety Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of Health and Welfare Kwon Deok-cheol, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination Koo Yoon-chul, and Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Jung Eun-kyeong are expected to attend.
A Blue House official explained, "As COVID-19 confirmed cases have surged recently, this meeting is to review the special quarantine activities of ministries and the action plans of local governments to ensure that the quarantine situation in the Seoul metropolitan area stabilizes early."
Regarding the inconvenience to the public caused by the implementation of Level 4, the Blue House official said, "Although President Moon did not convey explicit instructions or requests, he fully empathizes with the difficulties faced in this challenging situation."
Earlier, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum chaired the 'Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' meeting at the Government Seoul Office and announced that social distancing in the Seoul metropolitan area will be raised to Level 4 for two weeks starting from the 12th.

With the upgrade to Level 4, private gatherings are limited to no more than two people after 6 p.m. Only relatives may attend weddings and funerals.
