[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul citizens will directly wear eco-friendly clothing made from natural materials or recycled fibers, such as bags made from cacti and shorts made from discarded PET bottles, and walk the runway.
On the 9th, Seoul City announced that it will hold the "Climate Crisis Response Fashion Show with Citizens" at Dongdaemun Design Plaza Miraero, co-hosted with the Green Seoul Citizens Committee.
This fashion show will showcase various outfits that can respond to the climate crisis through the virtuous cycle of waste resources, including cool summer wear, natural material clothing with low carbon emissions using cotton and cactus leather, recycled fiber clothing made from recycled PET bottles, and repaired and altered secondhand clothing.
A total of about 30 people, including 10 citizens selected through an open recruitment in June, senior models, and university fashion department students, will participate as models on the stage of the "Climate Crisis Response Fashion Show with Citizens." On this day, the "Climate Crisis Response Campaign" to overcome the climate crisis will be held to encourage citizen participation.
Citizen model Han Hye-jin, who participated in the fashion show, said, "I usually practice donating clothes I don't wear, free sharing, and bartering," and added, "I feel proud to be able to participate in activities that save the Earth together with people around me."
Park Yong-jun, head of the Smart Textile Team at Hyosung TNC, which won the grand prize at this year's Seoul Metropolitan Government Environmental Awards and also participated in this fashion show, said, "We will continue to develop new eco-friendly materials so that fashion companies can launch various eco-friendly products in the market, and strengthen collaboration with eco-friendly fashion startups."
