[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The People Power Party finalized the appointment of the ‘Primary Preparation Committee’ for selecting the presidential candidate for next year’s election on the 8th. The committee plans to hold its first meeting tomorrow and begin full-scale preparations for the presidential election.

View original imageOn the same day, the People Power Party held a Supreme Council meeting to confirm the composition of the Primary Preparation Committee. Five-term lawmaker Seo Byung-soo was appointed as the chairman, and Secretary-General Han Ki-ho was appointed as the vice chairman. Within the National Assembly, lawmakers Kwon Young-se, head of the party’s External Cooperation Committee; Seong Il-jong, deputy head of the party’s Strategic Planning Department; Lee Man-hee, chairman of the party’s Gyeongbuk Provincial Party; Park Soo-young, head of the party’s Public Relations Committee; and floor deputy representative Heo Eun-ah will also participate as committee members.
Outside the National Assembly, Ji Sang-wook, director of the Yeouido Institute; former Secretary-General Jeong Yang-seok; former Emergency Measures Committee member Kim Jae-seop; and Park Myung-ho, head of the Department of Political Science at Dongguk University, will participate in the committee.
The Primary Preparation Committee will be responsible for all practical matters related to next year’s presidential election.

Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, hinted at the possibility of a two-stage cut-off in the presidential primary. Appearing on KBS Radio’s Choi Kyung-young’s Strong Talk, Lee said, "With 14 candidates (mentioned inside and outside the party), it’s too many, so we might have a two-stage cut-off," adding, "Personally, I am thinking about narrowing it down to around four candidates."
