North Korea's Rodong Sinmun Provides Detailed Report on South Korea's COVID-19 Situation
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The North Korean Workers' Party organ, Rodong Sinmun, on the 8th published a separate detailed article on the COVID-19 spread situation in South Korea. According to Rodong Sinmun, this is the first time since June 28 last year that North Korea has released an article titled on South Korea's COVID-19 situation.
Rodong Sinmun, in an article titled "Rapid Increase in Daily Infections in Namjoson," reported, "According to reports, the number of new COVID virus infections in Namjoson is rapidly increasing, causing a great stir," and conveyed the COVID-19 confirmed cases status as of the 6th.
The number of new domestic COVID-19 confirmed cases was counted at 1,212 as of midnight the previous day, a sharp increase of 466 compared to the previous day, marking the second highest record since the first patient appeared domestically in January last year.
Rodong Sinmun stated, "The daily number of infections in Namjoson exceeding 1,200 is the first time since last January," and "especially, more than 85% of the infections on that day came from Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and Incheon areas, with those in their 20s and 30s accounting for a large proportion," providing detailed coverage.
It then added, citing South Korean media reports, "The fourth wave that began in late April is spreading to a pandemic level," and "there are concerns that the scale of the outbreak may grow further as the highly transmissible Delta variant virus is also spreading."
