Survival Confirmed Through Phone Call with Buried Person Mr. A
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] On the morning of the 6th, in Bipyung-ri, Jinsang-myeon, Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do, a landslide buried a house, resulting in a missing person in their 80s, and rescue operations are underway.
According to the police and fire authorities, a landslide occurred around 6:04 a.m. that day on a hillside in Jinsang-myeon, Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do.
As a result of the accident, two houses and one warehouse were buried under soil, and two warehouses were damaged.
The fire authorities reported that A (82, female), who lived in one of the buried houses, was trapped inside, and rescue operations were underway.
Gwangyang City announced that around 8:30 a.m., they were able to establish a phone connection with A and confirmed she was alive.
However, A was unable to speak, so her exact health condition was not confirmed.
Four people lived in the other buried house, but one was out, and three were confirmed to have evacuated.
Above the site of the landslide, civil engineering work for building a country house had been ongoing for about two years, and leveling work was completed in January of this year.
Residents claimed that they had filed complaints with Gwangyang City four times, warning of the risk of soil collapse, but appropriate measures were not taken.
Gwangyang City requested a slope safety review last month for the single-family house construction site near Bipyung-ri village in Jinsang-myeon where the landslide occurred on the morning of the 6th, but the construction company ignored it, and it is known that the matter was temporarily resolved by installing drainage channels.
The fire authorities are using heavy equipment to clear the debris of the houses and attempt rescue, but heavy rain and soil and building debris soaked with rainwater are making the rescue difficult.
