This challenge is a campaign underway to strongly condemn and call for the withdrawal of the Japanese government's official announcement on April 13 to discharge 1.25 million tons of radioactive contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean over 30 years starting from 2023.
Chairman Shim, who joined the campaign upon the nomination of Kim Jong-du, Chairman of the Geochang County Council, said, "Japan's decision to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the ocean is an irresponsible act that causes serious pollution to the world's oceans," and added, "We strongly urge the Japanese government to withdraw the decision."
He also nominated Lee Sang-young, Chairman of the Jinju City Council, and Park Sung-gon, Chairman of the Hadong County Council, as the next participants in the challenge.

Meanwhile, the Sancheong County Council unanimously adopted the "Resolution to Condemn the Discharge of Contaminated Water from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant into the Ocean" at the 1st plenary session of the 274th Sancheong County Council extraordinary meeting on May 6, condemning the Japanese government's decision to discharge radioactive contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant and urging the South Korean government to prepare effective countermeasures.
