No-Confidence Vote Ousts Swedish Prime Minister, Successor Candidate Announced
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] According to Bloomberg News on the 5th (local time), the former Swedish Prime Minister who recently resigned after a vote of no confidence is expected to be nominated as the next prime minister candidate and begin forming a new government.
According to the report, Stefan L?fven, leader of the Social Democratic Party, who recently resigned from the Swedish prime minister position after a vote of no confidence in parliament, has been nominated again as the next prime minister candidate.
On the same day, Andreas Norl?n, Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, announced, "The confirmation vote to nominate L?fven as prime minister candidate will be held on the 7th."
After the vote of no confidence in parliament, L?fven stepped down from the prime minister position last month and entrusted Speaker Norl?n with the task of forming a new government.
Accordingly, the main opposition party attempted to form a new government but gave up on forming a coalition after failing to secure sufficient support.
Depending on the outcome of the confirmation vote, L?fven could return as prime minister, but foreign media predict uncertainty about the results.
At a press conference held in the capital Stockholm on the same day, L?fven expressed his intention to return, saying, "The opposition is unable to present a viable alternative," and "A government that can take action is needed."
The Social Democratic Party led by L?fven has formed a coalition government with the Green Party, the Left Party, and two other center-right parties, and has held a caretaker government position even after his resignation.
Since taking office as prime minister in 2014, L?fven faced a vote of no confidence in parliament triggered by his plan to ease rent control regulations.
