Samjong KPMG Provides One-Year 'Professor' Research Funding to Enhance Accounting Transparency

[Asia Economy Reporter Ji Yeon-jin] Samjong KPMG (Chairman Kim Gyo-tae) announced on the 6th that it has selected Professor Bae Gil-su of Korea University Business School, Professor Moon Sang-hyeok of Yeungnam University Department of Accounting and Taxation, and Professor Ahn Hye-jin of Hongik University Department of Business Administration as the ‘2021 Samjong KPMG Professors,’ honoring scholars who have contributed to the development of accounting and corporate governance research.
The three professors received their appointment certificates at the ‘2021 Samjong KPMG Professor’ appointment ceremony, hosted by the Korean Accounting Association and sponsored by Samjong KPMG.
Professor Bae Gil-su of Korea University Business School was appointed as a ‘Distinguished Professor.’ Since 1998, Professor Bae has served as a professor at Korea University Business School, conducting various research related to corporate governance, accounting audits, and capital markets. He also served as president of the Accounting Research Society from 2014 to 2015, enhancing the research capabilities of the Korean Accounting Association and contributing to the establishment of principle-based accounting.
Professor Moon Sang-hyeok of Yeungnam University Department of Accounting and Taxation was selected as an ‘ACI Professor (Audit Committee Institute Professor)’ in recognition of his active research on corporate governance, boards of directors, and audit committees, including winning the Best Paper Award from the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2002. Professor Moon currently serves as editor-in-chief of the academic journal Journal of Finance and Accounting Information of the Korean Accounting Information Society, and as an editorial board member for journals of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Korean Accounting Association.
Professor Ahn Hye-jin of Hongik University Department of Business Administration was appointed as a ‘Scholarship Professor,’ awarded to emerging scholars who have published outstanding papers in accounting. Professor Ahn has accumulated diverse practical experience and academic activities, having served at Samjong Accounting Corporation’s Audit Headquarters and as academic director of the Korean Tax Association. In 2020, she was recognized for her achievements by winning the Best Paper Award from the Korean International Accounting Association for her paper titled “Earnings Management, Business Strategy, and Audit Committee Expertise.”
Kim Gyo-tae, Chairman of Samjong KPMG, stated, “The specialized research of scholars serves as a solid foundation for the development of capital markets and the enhancement of accounting transparency. Going forward, through the ‘Samjong KPMG Professor’ program, we will continue to support insightful research by scholars and lead the healthy growth of companies and society.”

Meanwhile, the ‘2021 Samjong KPMG Professors’ were selected by the Korean Accounting Association according to its own regulations, and Samjong KPMG will provide the appointed professors with a designated research fund for one year.
