The city of Gyeongju explained that Mayor Joo's visit on this day was an expression of his determination to carry out all-out "boots-on-the-ground administration" targeting key executives including the Ministry of Economy and Finance's 2nd Vice Minister in line with the budget review that began this month.
Gyeongju City is focusing its administrative power on regional strategic projects and regional balanced development projects. Specifically, the top priority core projects are △Maintenance of Gyeongju Munmu Daewang Tomb (2.1 billion KRW) △Establishment of Innovation Nuclear Research and Development Base Project (104 billion KRW) △Proton Accelerator Expansion Project (51.3 billion KRW).
Also, △Construction of 4-lane national road between Nongso and Oedong (20 billion KRW) △Expansion of 4-lane national road between Yangnam and Gampo 2 (3 billion KRW) △Expansion of 4-lane national road between Ulju Beomseo and Gyeongju (2 billion KRW) △Improvement of 2-lane national road between Oedong and Yangnam (2 billion KRW) are also considered essential budgets to realize regional balanced development.
In addition, Mayor Joo proposed support for △Maintenance project of sewage pipelines in Hyeongok Sohyeon treatment district for improvement of residential district living environment △Maintenance project of sewage pipelines in Gyeongju sewage treatment area (Cheonbuk, Seonamsan district) for tourism environment improvement.
The national funds required for Gyeongju City's new and ongoing projects for next year amount to 95 cases totaling 547.4 billion KRW.
Mayor Joo Nak-young emphasized, "For lukewarm or negative contentious projects, we will reinforce the budget proposal logic, and for projects with insufficient or no budget reflection, we will actively prepare countermeasures. Until the budget is finally confirmed, I will continuously visit the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the National Assembly frequently to meticulously ensure that national funds are reflected."

Meanwhile, the government budget proposal will be submitted to the National Assembly on September 3 after reviews by each sector of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Cabinet meeting. It will be finally confirmed in early December after deliberations by the National Assembly standing committees, the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, and plenary sessions.
