Professor Seokyungho Appointed as Chair of the Humanities Promotion Deliberation Committee
Deliberation on the Basic Plan for Humanities and Promotion of Humanistic Spiritual Culture in September
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Education announced on the 5th that they formed the 3rd 'Council for the Promotion of Humanities and Human Spirit Culture' on the 1st. This council deliberates on major matters related to the promotion of humanities and human spirit culture. It is composed of twenty members: a chairperson, ten private members with expertise, and nine ex officio members (including the Vice Ministers of Education and Foreign Affairs, and the Administrator of the Cultural Heritage Administration).
Professor Emeritus Seo Kyung-ho of the Interdisciplinary Program in Humanities at Seoul National University was appointed as the chairperson. The council plans to hold a meeting in September to deliberate and finalize the 2nd Basic Plan for the Promotion of Humanities and Human Spirit Culture, which includes mid- to long-term policy goals and tasks related to humanities and human spirit culture.

Lee Jin-sik, Director of Cultural Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "We will promote various humanities policies so that our society can overcome the aftermath of COVID-19 and continue to develop as a community centered on humanistic values." Seol Se-hoon, Director of University Academic Policy at the Ministry of Education, also said, "We will steadily support education and academic activities in the humanities field and collaborate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to create a synergistic effect between humanities and human spirit culture."
