Public Hearing on Subordinate Legislation of the "Laboratory Safety Environment Act"
Ministry of Science and ICT to Broadcast Live Online on the Afternoon of the 7th
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] On the afternoon of the 7th, the Ministry of Science and ICT will hold a public online hearing at the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology in Daejeon to prepare amendments to the subordinate statutes of the "Act on the Creation of Safe Laboratory Environments."
The hearing will be conducted via live online streaming with 10 related discussants attending, including the Korean Council for University Education, the Korean Council for College Education, the National Research Council of Science & Technology, the Korea Industrial Technology Association, and the National University Laboratory Safety Environment Managers Council. By accessing the internet link or QR code for the online hearing, viewers can watch in real time. A Q&A session through an online bulletin board will also take place.
The main contents of the fully revised Laboratory Safety Act from last year, the proposed amendments to the subordinate statutes to be submitted this year, and the collection of opinions and discussions on key issues will be conducted. Current major issues include the implementation standards for the national professional qualification (Laboratory Safety Manager), raising compensation standards for medical benefits (treatment costs), standards for conducting inspections and diagnoses, criteria for excellent laboratory certification reviews, and the public disclosure of laboratory safety information.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to reflect the results of this hearing in the draft amendments to the subordinate statutes, announce the legislative notice in August, and revise the statutes within this year.
