Shinsegae Food Selected as an 'Excellent Labor-Management Culture Company' by the Ministry of Employment and Labor
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Shinsegae Food announced on the 5th that it has been selected as an ‘Excellent Company in Labor-Management Culture’ for 2021, hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
The ‘Excellent Company in Labor-Management Culture’ is a program implemented by the Ministry of Employment and Labor since 1996 to promote cooperative labor-management culture and strengthen corporate competitiveness. Each year, workplaces that have exemplary labor-management culture based on labor-management partnership are selected. This year, despite the COVID-19 situation, evaluations were conducted on labor-management win-win cooperation culture and inter-company cooperation, selecting a total of 37 companies including 12 large corporations, 19 small and medium enterprises, and 6 public institutions.
Shinsegae Food has focused on three core values: ‘a company where employees are happy,’ ‘a company that grows together with partner companies,’ and ‘a company that fulfills social responsibility,’ striving to develop labor-management culture. To strengthen communication among employees, which was lacking due to COVID-19, it created opportunities to empathize with management status through online video conferences directly involving executives and staff, as well as in-house broadcasts called ‘Communication Space’ using YouTube. Mobile surveys have been actively used as a channel to collect opinions between labor and management.
Moreover, despite the difficult business environment caused by COVID-19, Shinsegae Food was highly recognized for its achievements in exemplary labor-management relations, including organizational culture innovation activities linked with external professional institutions, human resource development programs for employees, industry-leading welfare and benefit systems, support for a safe working environment, and development of employee consideration systems.
A Shinsegae Food official said, “This selection as an ‘Excellent Company in Labor-Management Culture’ was possible because labor and management empathized with the necessity of building organizational culture based on trust and practiced efforts to overcome difficulties caused by COVID-19,” adding, “Going forward, based on the goal of growing together with employees and the company, we will create Shinsegae Food’s unique beautiful advanced organizational culture and strengthen corporate competitiveness through it.”
