Gangnam-gu Provides 660,000 KRW Each for Installing Ramps for Disabled Persons
Fixed, Mobile, and Portable Customized... Targeting 100 Small Businesses by Year-End
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) will support up to 660,000 KRW for the installation of ramps at 100 businesses such as restaurants, pharmacies, and convenience stores where wheelchairs or strollers have difficulty entering due to entrance steps by the end of the year.
The district planned this project to facilitate the use of convenience facilities for mobility-vulnerable groups such as the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women through customized ramp installations.
The support targets small-scale businesses under 300㎡ with entrance steps of 5 cm or more.
Based on the results of installing ramps at 13 businesses during the pilot project in March last year, the district allows the selection of various types of ramps including fixed, portable, and mobile ramps.
Since March, the district has been conducting on-site promotions directly in cooperation with the commissioned company, ‘Good Job Independent Living Center’.
The district also provides a service that visualizes information on facilities for the disabled. Using the ‘The Gangnam’ app map service, users can easily find disabled parking spaces, restrooms, ramps, and more at a glance.

Meanwhile, this project was implemented following the revision of the ‘Ordinance on Support for Installation of Convenience Facilities for Disabled and Other Mobility-Vulnerable Persons in Gangnam-gu’ in June last year. Bae Gyeong-suk, Director of the Social Welfare Division, said, “We hope that expanding ramp installations will not only improve accessibility for mobility-vulnerable groups but also help alleviate some of the burdens on the stagnant local economy.”
