According to the province on the 2nd, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee recently reconsidered the single-track electrification of the Ungcheon~Daeya section and finally reflected the project cost of 150 billion KRW needed for the double-track conversion.
Accordingly, the province plans to focus its efforts on the upcoming Ministry of Strategy and Finance's 'Total Project Cost Management Review' this month to ensure the final approval of the double-track electrification project for the Janghang Line Ungcheon~Daeya section.
If the review passes, the Janghang Line double-track electrification project will invest 1.0129 trillion KRW by 2026 to electrify the 118.6 km section connecting Asan Sinchang and Iksan Daeya with double tracks.
Meanwhile, the Janghang Line Ungcheon~Daeya section was originally planned as a single-track electrification during the preliminary feasibility study in 2017.
However, the province has continuously advocated the necessity of double-track electrification, citing that conditions such as track capacity could change in the long term with the operation of the Seohae Line and Seokmun Industrial Complex Line.

In particular, the province's argument for the double-track electrification of the Janghang Line Ungcheon~Daeya section is that excluding double-track electrification for certain sections would slow transportation speed and make it difficult to handle increasing freight volumes, which could significantly reduce the overall project effectiveness.
