He also predicted that Yoon will likely join the People Power Party. Additionally, he mentioned that communication has begun with another external candidate, former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung.
On the 2nd, Kwon appeared on a radio show and said, "Since we cannot delay meeting (with former Prosecutor General Yoon), I am planning to meet him before mid-July." He also expressed the view that Yoon's joining the party is a natural process. He said, "(Yoon) is probably in a period of considering when it would be advantageous to join the party," adding, "There is a high possibility that he will reach the conclusion that joining the party is necessary."
Kwon also shared a different assessment from that of party leader Lee Jun-seok, who has pressured Yoon to decide on joining the party by late August at the latest. Kwon said it is not necessary to push too hard. He stated, "According to the party constitution and rules, the presidential candidate must be selected by November, and even when calculating backward to the start of the primary, there is no need to rush and force him to join before August," but added, "However, I think it would be advantageous for him to join and start activities as early as possible."
Regarding former Chairman Choi, Kwon predicted that he will definitely engage in politics with the opposition party. Kwon said, "Currently, the People Power Party is fully recognized by the public as the platform for regime change, and accordingly, the party's approval rating has risen significantly," adding, "Trying to achieve regime change from outside without using this party as a platform would not be very advantageous for him."
