COVID-19 New Cases 695 by 9 PM... 61 Fewer Than Previous Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] The number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to rise in South Korea.
According to the quarantine authorities and local governments including Seoul City, from midnight to 9 p.m. on the 30th, a total of 695 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported nationwide. This is 61 fewer than the 756 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
Looking at the regions where confirmed cases were reported, 596 cases (85.8%) occurred in the metropolitan area, and 99 cases (14.2%) were reported outside the metropolitan area.
By city and province, Seoul reported 323 cases, Gyeonggi 237 cases, and Incheon 36 cases. Busan and Daejeon each reported 15 cases, Chungnam 14 cases, Gangwon and Gyeongnam each 10 cases, Gwangju 7 cases, Daegu and Jeonbuk each 6 cases, Gyeongbuk 5 cases, Chungbuk 4 cases, Jeonnam 3 cases, Ulsan 2 cases, and Sejong and Jeju each reported 1 case.
The number of new confirmed cases to be announced as of midnight on July 1 is expected to reach the mid-700s.
From the 24th to today, the average daily number of new confirmed cases over the past week was about 630. The daily average of locally transmitted cases, a key indicator for adjusting the 'social distancing' level and gauging the community outbreak situation, is approximately 592.9 cases. The metropolitan area accounts for 464.9 cases (78.4%).

Among major cases, cluster infections originating from native English-speaking instructors continue. The infection that started at a restaurant near Hongdae in Mapo-gu, Seoul, spread through a foreign instructor gathering to six academies in Seongnam, Bucheon, Goyang, Uijeongbu in Gyeonggi Province, and Incheon. A total of 213 confirmed cases have been reported. The Delta variant virus, originating from India, was detected in some specimen samples.
