Gwangju Bank Conducts Volunteer Work to Assist Tomato Farmers with Labor
About 30 Employees and University Student Ambassadors Participate in Promotion
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Bank (President Song Jongwook) announced on the 30th that it carried out volunteer work to help tomato farmers with farm labor on the 29th in Daegok-ri, Dogok-myeon, Hwasun, Jeonnam.
About 30 Gwangju Bank employees and university student ambassadors participated in this volunteer activity to support farms struggling with labor shortages due to population decline, aging, and the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The work involved removing and organizing tomato stems as well as sorting the tomatoes harvested by the farmers.
A promotional video to document the volunteer work process and promote local agricultural products will be produced and posted on the Gwangju Bank university student ambassadors’ YouTube, Instagram, and other SNS accounts.
Im Sookkyung, head of Gwangju Bank’s Social Contribution Department, said, “Gwangju Bank employees and university student ambassadors joined forces to help the difficult reality of local rural areas and to personally experience the precious value of local agricultural production through farm labor assistance. As the representative bank of Gwangju and Jeonnam, we will continue to take an interest in and accompany the region in various areas such as the economy, society, and culture for mutual development.”

Meanwhile, last year, Gwangju Bank took the lead in revitalizing local rural areas by independently holding the ‘Happy Commute Spring’ event, which gifted flower pots to employees to support flower farms struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and by conducting volunteer work to help with recovery efforts for farms damaged by typhoons.
