Preliminary Candidate Registration for Primary Election
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon has entered the Democratic Party presidential primary race by registering as a preliminary candidate.
Park Kwang-on, who serves as the general headquarters chief of the primary campaign, and Choi In-ho, the head of the comprehensive situation headquarters, registered former leader Lee Nak-yeon as a preliminary candidate for the 20th presidential election at the Democratic Party Central Office in Yeouido, Seoul, at 3 p.m. on the 29th on his behalf.
Former leader Lee expressed his feelings upon registering as a preliminary candidate, saying, "I am thrilled and overwhelmed as I take the first step in the long primary journey."
He also said, "Since I started politics, I have believed that the greatest duty of a politician is to heal the pain of the people and give them hope. I will do that. I will warmly care for the struggling people and youth and restore the wounded fairness."
In particular, he emphasized, "I will launch the 4th Democratic government, following Presidents Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Moon Jae-in. I will create a proud Republic of Korea."

Meanwhile, former leader Lee has set his presidential slogan and national vision as "A country that protects my life," reflecting his strong will to "protect the lives of each citizen who struggles today and fears tomorrow." He has proposed two core policies to realize this vision: New Welfare and the Middle-Class Economy Theory. His official declaration of candidacy is scheduled for the 5th of next month.
