Aviation Expert Kim Young-je Appointed as GE General Manager
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Kim Young-je, the current CEO of GE Aviation Korea, has been appointed as the new General Manager of GE (General Electric Company) Korea.
On the 29th, GE announced that Kim Young-je, who currently serves as the President of GE Aviation Korea and the Head of Military Engine Indo-Pacific Sales at GE Aviation, has been appointed as the General Manager.
General Manager Kim is recognized as an aviation expert with over 17 years of experience in the aviation industry, having gone through the GE Leadership Program. He will officially take office on the 1st of next month and will concurrently serve as President of GE Aviation Korea and Head of Indo-Pacific Sales at GE Aviation.
The industry expects significant contributions from GE, which has challenged the propulsion system projects for the Navy’s next-generation destroyer (KDDX) and light aircraft carrier (CVX). GE plans to propose the LM2500 series gas turbines along with an integrated electric propulsion system for the KDDX.
The KDDX project is aimed at securing combat ships to be operated as the Navy’s core force and is referred to as a ‘mini Aegis ship’ capable of performing basic missions of an Aegis destroyer, such as missile interception.
Meanwhile, Kang Sung-wook, the General Manager of GE Korea and CEO of GE Healthcare Korea, has moved to the position of President of GE Healthcare ASEAN. Kang, who took office as General Manager of GE Korea in January 2012, also served as CEO of GE Healthcare Korea from 2019, leading the healthcare team even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
