This construction project was to repair the wooden deck damaged by Typhoon Lingling, the 13th typhoon in 2019. The initial project cost was 131 million KRW, but considering the frequent repairs and short lifespan of the wooden deck, an additional 238 million KRW of county funds was added, and the project was promoted by changing to a revetment road using PC box culverts.
The project has a total length of 148m and a width of 2m, consisting of 29 double-row PC box culverts (2000mm×2000mm), 6 single-row ones, and 165 granite square railings with fluorescent ropes woven in civil engineering work. A 20cm thick concrete pavement was laid over the PC box culverts and connected with high-tension bolts to withstand typhoons.

Governor Park Woo-ryang said, “Sinan is the first to complete a revetment road using more durable PC box culverts instead of wooden decks that are frequently damaged by typhoons. I think this construction method is suitable for islands, and I hope it will be applied to all deck construction projects in the future.” He added, “I believe that the continuous small challenges of trying things that others do not do are the most characteristic of Sinan.”
