[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] DL E&C (formerly Daelim Industrial) Safety Experience School has become the first in the construction industry to receive the ‘Private Safety Experience Education Center Certification’ from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA).

DL E&C announced on the 28th that the certification awarding ceremony was held at the Safety Experience School at the Daejeon Daedeok Research Institute. Attendees included Kim Ilsu, Head of the Daejeon-Sejong Regional Headquarters of KOSHA, and Pi Gwanghee, Compliance Management Officer of DL E&C, along with other related personnel.

KOSHA operates a certification system for privately operated safety experience education centers to expand experiential safety education and promote industrial accident prevention through mutual cooperation. The evaluation comprehensively reviews education programs, instructors, facilities, and equipment. Based on the evaluation results, the center is recognized as a safety experience education center compliant with industrial safety and health education regulations.

To practice ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, DL E&C relocated and expanded its Safety Experience School, previously located in Yongin, to the Daejeon Daedeok Research Institute earlier this year. The facility spans two floors with a total floor area of 1,684㎡ and consists of 21 types of education and experience facilities. It includes various temporary structures and facilities actually used on construction sites, construction heavy equipment, as well as virtual reality (VR) experience equipment and content. Programs introducing smart safety systems incorporating 4th industrial technologies such as the latest Internet of Things (IoT), drones, big data, AI, and wearable devices have also been established.

In January last year, DL E&C became the first construction company to obtain international standard certification for an educational institution operating a safety education facility. To secure reliability in safety education, DL E&C introduced the certification process for the international standard for educational institution management systems, ‘ISO 21001:2018,’ and acquired the certification after undergoing an audit covering the entire process from curriculum design to development and operation.

DL E&C is adopting various accident prevention activities and technologies to strengthen safety management. It analyzes various types of accidents occurring on-site by converting them into big data and provides monthly reports to all employees to prevent such incidents. Additionally, it applies and develops safety accident prevention technologies using various smart technologies and equipment such as collision prevention sensors and alarm devices for construction equipment, horizontal status alert alarms to prevent overturning, drones, and CCTV.

A DL E&C official stated, "Building on the recognition as a private safety experience education center, we plan to expand educational opportunities to partner companies, related organizations, students, and the local community." He added, "Through this, we will create workplaces where accidents never occur and accelerate ESG management that contributes to preventing safety accidents in the local community."
