Shinsegae Academy Introduces Online Courses for Homecance Seekers
From Financial Planning for Office Workers to Pet Dog Classes... Popular Courses Available Online
Over 100 Online Courses Scheduled Through the Second Half of This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Shinsegae Academy is launching online courses targeting homecance and hocance enthusiasts.
Shinsegae Academy, the cultural center of Shinsegae Department Store, announced on the 29th that it will offer lifestyle information such as financial planning and home cooking, as well as content like growth massage that can be enjoyed with children, through Zoom live sessions by the end of July for customers who want to safely enjoy their vacations amid COVID-19.
They have prepared a total of 10 courses aimed at 2030 office workers focusing on financial planning, and family-oriented classes such as cooking and art. Actual students can enjoy these popular lectures from home.
Shinsegae Academy explained, "Financial planning courses have consistently been popular among customers in their 30s for purposes such as marriage, household support, and children's education," adding, "We have been steadily increasing the number of related courses each semester, and this summer semester we introduced 24% more financial planning courses compared to last spring." They also noted that as COVID-19 prolongs, more students are seeking safe hobbies at home, making classes like home drinking, wine, and art popular.
Through these online classes, Shinsegae is also introducing various lifestyle courses that were difficult to hold in department stores before. 'Signals Sent by Our Dog' is a newly established course where customers can participate with their pet dogs, reflecting growing interest in pets. Although there had been many requests for such courses, it was previously impossible to hold them due to restrictions on bringing dogs into the department store and academy.
Courses that were difficult to open due to COVID-19, such as 'Growth Massage & Yoga' for infants aged 3 to 10 months and the infant music play class 'Hello Music Together,' have been prepared so that parents can safely attend with their children at home. Shinsegae plans to add more courses through the second half of the year, including pet dog and infant/child companion classes, reflecting diverse demands that were previously unmet due to space or safety constraints.
Popular offline courses such as 'Real Estate Auction Made Easy' by popular YouTuber instructor Lee Hyunjung and 'Introduction to Red Wine Cabernet Sauvignon' conducted by a wine sommelier will also be available online.
Kwon Younggyu, Executive Director in charge of culture at Shinsegae Department Store, said, "In line with the homecance and hocance trends, we are now offering popular courses online as well," adding, "We will lead lifestyle trends through high-quality content that reflects customer demand."
