"Wrong Path"... Criticism of US Pro-Iran Militia Bombing
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the U.S. airstrikes on pro-Iranian militia positions in Syria and Iraq.
On the 28th (local time), the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a press conference and criticized the U.S. military's airstrikes on pro-Iranian militia facilities the previous day, saying they "have chosen the wrong path."
Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh stated, "The United States continues to follow a failed path not only in sanctions but also in its Middle East policy," adding, "These actions (airstrikes) disrupt regional stability."
He further advised, "The U.S. should not escalate tensions through emotional actions but should change its policy direction to allow the people of the region (Middle East) to determine their own destiny."
Iran's state-run Press TV also reported, citing Syrian state media, that one child was killed and three adults were injured in Al-Bukamal due to the U.S. airstrikes.
The broadcast interpreted, "The U.S. military intervention in Iraq and Syria is an attempt to strengthen its influence in the Middle East."
The day before, U.S. President Joe Biden ordered a retaliatory airstrike against pro-Iranian militias. John Kirby, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense, stated, "We struck two locations in Syria used as militia operational and weapons storage facilities and one location in Iraq," adding, "This was in retaliation for drone attacks by these militias on U.S. bases and personnel in Iraq."
This retaliatory airstrike against pro-Iranian militias is the second since President Biden took office. Earlier, in February, President Biden ordered airstrikes on targets in Syria in response to rocket attacks.
