Mokwon University announced on the 28th that it will hold opera performances of L'elisir d'amore and I Pagliacci at 7 p.m. for two days starting from the 28th at the university concert hall.
L'elisir d'amore is a representative comedy by Italian opera composer Donizetti and is classified as a romantic comedy. The students relocate the original setting of an 18th-century Basque farm in Spain to a modern workplace office environment, portraying episodes between a boss and employees instead.
I Pagliacci mainly depicts love stories between men and women and the everyday lives of common people as a traveling troupe arrives in a Calabrian village in Italy during the 1860s. Pagliacci is the plural form of the Italian word "pagliaccio," meaning "clown."
The students of the Department of Vocal Music and Musical Theatre will perform L'elisir d'amore for 1 hour and 15 minutes in the first act and I Pagliacci for 1 hour and 10 minutes in the second act.
A total of 46 vocal music major students from the department will participate in the opera.

Seo Pil, head professor of opera at Mokwon University’s Department of Vocal Music and Musical Theatre, said, “Mokwon University is the only university in the Chungcheong region that has continuously produced and staged student operas since the 1980s. Through this, students will have a great opportunity to perform on stage as opera singers and hone their performance skills.”
