[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A customer who visited a restaurant on the U.S. East Coast left a tip amounting to about 18 million won after eating hot dogs and drinking beverages.
According to a CNN report on the 26th (local time), an anonymous customer who visited the 'Stumble Inn Bar and Grill' restaurant in Londonderry, New Hampshire, on the 12th ordered two hot dogs, drinks, and tequila. The total bill for this customer was $37.93, approximately 42,000 won in Korean currency.
After finishing the meal, the customer wrote a tip of as much as $16,000 on the receipt and left the restaurant. The staff who later confirmed this said, "It's unbelievable," and were delighted.
Restaurant owner Mr. Jarella advised the staff not to get too excited. It was uncertain whether the tip would actually be paid by the bank. He said, "I really didn't think the tip was real until it was actually paid by the bank," expressing his surprise.
A week later, the anonymous customer returned to the restaurant and spoke with Mr. Jarella, according to foreign media. When Mr. Jarella said, "If it was a mistake and you ask for it back, I will return it," and asked, "Is that true?" the customer replied, "It's not a mistake. Keep all the money."
