30% Increase in Computer Proficiency Certification Applicants... Popular Among Youth
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The number of test takers for the national technical qualification in computer proficiency surged last year. This is largely attributed to the activation of non-face-to-face industries due to the impact of COVID-19.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 27th, the number of test takers for the Level 1 Computer Proficiency certification exam last year was 560,000, an increase of about 30% compared to the previous year (430,000).
The Computer Proficiency certification verifies the ability to use computer programs and databases, and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) administers the exam. It is interpreted that the number of test takers for the Computer Proficiency certification increased as the speed of non-face-to-face digital transformation accelerated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among those who obtained the certification, many were young people. Looking at the certifications obtained by people in their 20s last year by category, Level 2 Computer Proficiency (55,000 people) was the most common, followed by Level 1 (48,000 people). Teenagers also had the highest number of Level 2 Computer Proficiency certification holders (10,000 people).
