GS25 Introduces AIoT-Based 'Transparent PET Bottle Collection Bin'... "As a Resource Circulation Platform"
GS25 is piloting transparent PET bottle collection bins equipped with AIoT (Artificial Intelligence + Internet of Things) technology.
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] GS25 announced on the 27th that it will pilot transparent PET bottle collection bins equipped with AIoT (Artificial Intelligence + Internet of Things) technology in partnership with environmental tech startup Oyster Able.
The transparent PET bottle collection bins can be used after installing the linked mobile app, Oneul-ui Bunrisugeo (Today's Recycling), and receiving a QR code. Customers authenticate first by scanning the assigned QR code on the bin's barcode scanner, then perform a second authentication by scanning the product barcode before depositing transparent PET bottles into the slot. If the bottle is not transparent PET, the device automatically recognizes this during the second authentication and blocks the slot. Sensors detect the weight and quantity of the collected transparent PET bottles and transmit this information in real time.
Customers receive a reward of 10 points per use. These points can be used within the app to purchase food and beverages or upcycled products. Beverages can be purchased for 100 points, while a whole pizza or an upcycled T-shirt costs 2,000 points. Points can also be donated to projects supporting resource circulation.
GS25 plans to first introduce the transparent PET bottle collection bins primarily in stores located in Gangnam-gu for testing, then rapidly expand nationwide.
