[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum visited Jeju on the 26th and expressed a reserved stance on the promotion of the second airport, saying, "Let's wait a little longer."
After touring the Jeju Electric Vehicle Battery Industrialization Center, Prime Minister Kim said in an interview, "I know there are divided opinions between those who want to promote the second airport and those who do not," adding, "I said I would try to find a way to reduce conflicts within the Jeju community as much as possible, so it would be better to wait a little longer."
Regarding the ongoing strategic environmental impact assessment for Jeju's second airport, he said, "I know that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has sent a supplementary strategic environmental impact assessment report to the Ministry of Environment, but I do not know the content of the Ministry of Environment's judgment."
He also stated, "I met with three members of the National Assembly from the Jeju region and had discussions," and said he would wait for proposals from local lawmakers to reduce conflicts in Jeju society.
