The Democratic Party's Primary Schedule Follows Principle: "Candidate Selection in September"... Even Postponement Advocates Agree It Cannot Be Delayed
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea has decided to proceed with the presidential candidate primary schedule as originally planned in the current party constitution, without postponement. Accordingly, the Democratic Party will hold a preliminary primary (cutoff) in early July to narrow down the current nine presidential candidates to six, and select the presidential candidate between September 5 and 10.
On the 25th, the Democratic Party leadership unanimously decided at the morning Supreme Council meeting to uphold the party constitution rule of selecting the candidate 180 days before the presidential election.

Although some Supreme Council members opposed postponing the primary, it is known that all agreed to follow the current party constitution in order to avoid division and move forward as a 'one team.'
Song explained, "Under the consensus that our leadership must move forward as one, even Supreme Council members with differing opinions agreed to unite their efforts and make this decision together."
Chief spokesperson Ko Yong-jin also told reporters after the meeting, "There were Supreme Council members who advocated for postponement, but everyone agreed that the decision could no longer be delayed," and added, "There was a suggestion to delegate the decision to the party leader, but since there was also a proposal to finalize it with the opinions of all Supreme Council members, it was resolved by the Supreme Council vote." Accordingly, it is expected that no separate party affairs committee procedure will be taken.
