'71st Anniversary of the Korean War' Oh Se-hoon Meets Young Meritorious Persons "Overcoming Serious Injuries, Much to Learn... Hope for the Youth"
Meeting with Youth Meritorious Persons Reserve Sergeant Ha Jaeheon, Marine Captain Lee Jueun, and Model Lee Chanho
Mayor Oh Visits the Student Volunteer Soldiers' Unknown Soldier Tower and the Patriotic Brothers' Graves
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 25th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited the National Seoul National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the Korean War, paying respects at the Student Volunteer Soldiers' Unknown Soldiers Monument and meeting with young merit recipients to encourage them.
On the morning of the same day, Mayor Oh paid tribute to the Student Volunteer Soldiers' Unknown Soldiers Monument and the Tomb of the Patriotic Brothers within the cemetery, then met with retired Sergeant Ha Jae-heon, Marine Captain Lee Joo-eun, and model Lee Chan-ho, all of whom were injured during military service.
Mayor Oh said, "I have learned a lot from meeting these three. Usually, when someone suffers such severe injuries, they tend to feel discouraged and lose spirit, but overcoming that and standing here like this will provide insight to many people. I believe you are creating exemplary cases that give hope to many young people."
He added, "Seoul City will create spaces where ordinary citizens do not forget and can participate together, so that citizens remain vigilant and can take the lead in improving social awareness."
Mayor Oh also listened to the suggestions of the three young merit recipients. They told him, "We have to prepare all the documents ourselves to be recognized as national merit recipients, and we have to handle everything alone during the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs' review process. The support amount is not realistic, causing significant personal financial burdens." In response, Mayor Oh said, "We will look for ways to address this at the Seoul City level."
Furthermore, when Marine Captain Lee Joo-eun expressed her wish, saying, "Support for injured soldiers is very insufficient. Especially after discharge, that support is further reduced. Therefore, I want to establish a support center for injured soldiers after discharge to help these individuals," Mayor Oh replied, "If you need help, ask anytime. It's a good idea. We will work together."
