Jeonnam Fire Department's All-Out Effort to Prevent Water Play Safety Accidents in Summer
Operation of '119 Water Rescue Team' at Major Water Play Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 24th that it will operate the '119 Water Rescue Team' at major water recreation sites to prevent water-related safety accidents during the summer season.
The 119 Water Rescue Team will deploy 131 personnel per day (83 firefighters and 48 civilians) and 324 pieces of equipment including 9 types of water rescue gear such as rubber boats to 30 beaches, rivers, and valleys across the province, conducting safety assurance activities for vacationers from early next month until the end of August.
Considering the size and characteristics of the water recreation sites, at 15 fixed duty locations, safety officers will be assigned with at least 5 fixed duty personnel, and at 15 patrol locations, two or more personnel will conduct patrol activities at least twice a day during peak water recreation hours.
Also, prior to the full-scale operation of the 119 Water Rescue Team, 18 fire stations in the province conducted water accident response training and carried out pre-inspections of the installation of water recreation safety facilities and potential accident risk factors.
Last year, the 119 Water Rescue Team recorded 7 life rescues and 254 on-site emergency treatments.
