Incheon Namdong-gu Senior Welfare Center and Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities Break Ground
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Namdong-gu, Incheon held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 24th for the Senior Welfare Center and Lifelong Education Center for Adults with Developmental Disabilities.
The district is investing 14.2 billion KRW to build these facilities on an 8,589㎡ site at 13-1, Susan-dong, with a scale of one basement floor to four above-ground floors and a total floor area of 4,445㎡. Completion is scheduled for September next year.
The main facilities include a large auditorium, senior citizens' association offices, a health promotion room, and various program rooms, all designed to enhance leisure activities and welfare for the elderly.
In particular, on the first floor, the Education Center for Adults with Developmental Disabilities will be established, featuring (special) classrooms, a psychological stabilization room, counseling rooms, and a multipurpose room to support welfare enhancement and educational assistance for adults with developmental disabilities.
The construction of the Lifelong Education Center has been a long-cherished project for the elderly and adults with developmental disabilities in Namdong-gu.
The current Namdong-gu Senior Welfare Center faces many operational difficulties due to aging facilities, reduced accessibility, and limited space, and there are no care or educational facilities to support adults with developmental disabilities in coexisting with the local community.
Once the Lifelong Education Center opens, it is expected to contribute to helping local seniors spend their later years happily and healthily by providing health promotion, leisure activities, and social participation services.
Additionally, it will minimize gaps in social adaptation training and care for adults with developmental disabilities and provide educational opportunities that promote social participation and independent living support.
