Gwangju Seo-gu Provides Alternative Meals to Vulnerable Elderly
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Gwangju Seo-gu Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center, which is privately commissioned by Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is providing the standard guidelines and substitute meal plans for alternative meals offered to low-income vulnerable elderly due to the temporary suspension of meals at senior citizen cafeterias caused by COVID-19, to six welfare facilities in Seo-gu.
On the 24th, the Seo-gu Center announced that it has established standard guidelines for substitute meals, which had previously been provided only as processed foods such as ramen and instant rice and convenience meals.
The center also provides welfare facilities with substitute meal plans that consider the nutrients elderly people need to consume sufficiently, offering technical support to ensure nutritional balance for the elderly.
Information on hygienic and healthy eating habits, such as ‘proper storage and management methods for substitute meals’ and ‘meal methods using substitute meals,’ is also provided to the elderly.
This year, Seo-gu opened the Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center and manages meal services at senior leisure welfare facilities to promote the health of the elderly.
