[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Ace Hardware, a home repair specialist brand under Eugene Home Center, a subsidiary of Eugene Group, is set to promote the culture of home repair. On the 24th, Ace Hardware announced the opening of a "Home Repair Academy" to spread the home repair culture, which is already common in developed countries, throughout Korea.
The Home Repair Academy aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of all processes related to home repair through various specialized training programs. In particular, the curriculum includes not only hands-on construction and repair but also supervision and management from an expert’s perspective when commissioning work to contractors.
Due to COVID-19, the Home Repair Academy will initially operate small-sized single-subject classes and plans to launch a comprehensive course by the end of this year, considering the situation. The single-subject classes will start with painting at the end of June and will gradually expand to practical basic courses related to home repair, including tools, electricity, woodworking, insulation, waterproofing, tiling, wallpapering, and flooring. The comprehensive course will cover 14 major construction processes, checklist preparation for each process, and emergency repair procedures related to home repair such as electrical leakage, water leakage, and pipe freezing.
Located at the Ace Hardware Yongsan branch, the Home Repair Academy features a workspace equipped with the necessary tools and materials for each home repair process, allowing both theoretical and practical training to be conducted in one place.
Since the training space is situated within the Ace Hardware store, participants can directly see and understand various materials and tools during the training. Additionally, to enhance the educational effect after course completion, separate video materials will be provided. For those who find it difficult to participate due to regional constraints, home repair-related content will be offered on Ace Hardware’s official YouTube channel.
The single-subject class of the Home Repair Academy, starting on the 26th of this month, will focus on "paint repair" using the "Clark & Kensington" paint, which Ace Hardware will exclusively launch in July. Participants will learn the basics of paint materials, tool usage, and painting practice.
This curriculum is a 3-hour course, and participants can choose to attend on either Thursday or Saturday each week. The tuition fee is 50,000 KRW, including material costs, and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Ace Hardware website. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Ace Hardware customer center.
