[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has established a new family-friendly space, the ‘Gwanak Family Happiness Center,’ where children, moms and dads, youth, and families of all ages can feel happiness and enjoy together.
On the 23rd at 3 p.m., the opening ceremony of ‘Gwanak Family Happiness Center,’ Gwanak-gu’s first family cultural complex facility, was held. The ceremony was attended by Park Junhee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, Gil Yonghwan, Chairperson of Gwanak-gu Council, National Assembly members Yoo Ki-hong and Jung Tae-ho, as well as parents and child representatives.
Mayor Park Junhee emphasized family happiness, saying, “The Gwanak Family Happiness Center is our district’s first family cultural complex facility encompassing childcare, women, and media. We believe that when families are happy, both homes and society are happy. We are making efforts to create a Gwanak where every day is happy through childbirth, parenting, and work-family balance.”
The opening ceremony minimized the number of attendees to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and comply with social distancing guidelines. Instead, the unveiling ceremony, ribbon cutting, mime performance, and facility tours were conducted live online via the ZOOM program and YouTube channel ‘Live Gwanak,’ allowing residents to participate in real time.
Mayor Park said, “Despite difficulties such as construction halts due to COVID-19 and cold waves after breaking ground in June 2019, we were able to successfully complete the center through the dedication and efforts to keep our promise to improve family welfare for residents.” He also expressed gratitude to those involved in the construction and presented commendations.
The ‘Gwanak Family Happiness Center’ is located near Nangok Intersection at 1491 Nambusunhwan-ro (Sinsa-dong), with a total floor area of 3,999.8㎡ and a structure spanning two basement levels to six floors above ground.
Floors 1 to 4 house childcare facilities for infants and toddlers, including a play experience center and a toy and early childhood library. The 5th floor features various employment and entrepreneurship program rooms such as cooking and baking classes for women experiencing career breaks. The 6th floor contains a village media center with a one-person media room and studio to stimulate everyone’s curiosity and operate diverse programs.
Notably, the Gwanak-style Mother Center ‘I-rang’ located on the 2nd floor is designed as a complex cultural rest space for residents, offering a public playroom for infants and toddlers and self-help groups for parenting parents, reflecting Gwanak-gu’s commitment to ‘Together Welfare Gwanak.’
Along with the opening, all facilities will operate sequentially from July 1 through reservations in accordance with the government’s COVID-19 social distancing stages.
