Jokuk's Daughter Applies for 'Witness Support' at Court... Expected to Attend Privately on the 25th
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Cho Min, the daughter of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk and Dongyang University Professor Jeong Gyeongshim, has applied to the court for witness support services. The witness support service is a system that allows witnesses to testify in a psychologically stable state by receiving assistance from a witness support officer, enabling them to appear confidentially without exposure to the outside.
According to the legal community on the 22nd, Cho’s side submitted an application for the witness support procedure to the court on the same day.
Earlier, on the 11th, the Criminal Division 21-1 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ma Seongyoung) accepted the prosecution’s request and designated Cho as a witness. At that time, the defense attorney for former Minister Cho strongly opposed, but the court recognized the necessity of questioning Cho, who is involved in the admission fraud case, and decided to summon her as a witness for the trial on the 25th.
However, just as former Minister Cho refused to answer all 300 questions when he appeared as a witness at Professor Jeong’s first trial in September last year, it is highly likely that Cho Min will also refuse most of the testimony.
Article 148 of the current Criminal Procedure Act stipulates that "anyone may refuse to testify if there is a concern that the testimony may reveal facts that could lead to criminal prosecution, indictment, or a guilty verdict against themselves or their relatives."
