Suncheon City Supporters Leading the Way in Mature Traffic Safety Culture Draw Attention
Suncheon Traffic Safety Guardians Supporters Conduct Joint Civil-Government-Police Campaign
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) conducted a large-scale traffic safety campaign on the morning commute hours on the 22nd, with citizens voluntarily participating.
At four major intersections in Suncheon city?Kookmin Bank Intersection, Medical Center Rotary, Sangsam Intersection, and in front of Hanaro Mart?the "Traffic Safety Keeper Supporters," along with related organizations such as the city government, Suncheon City Council, Suncheon Office of Education, Suncheon Police Station, as well as nearby school students and parents, participated together in the traffic safety campaign, drawing attention.
This joint campaign was led by 13 organizations belonging to the Supporters, which was launched last month, centered around about 280 students, parents, and drivers. They continuously conduct their own promotional activities to raise awareness of traffic safety and spread a culture of traffic safety even on regular days.
In particular, the campaign focused on promoting driver and pedestrian safety rules such as Safe Speed 5030, prohibition of five major illegal parking and stopping areas (children protection zones, within 5m of fire hydrants, within 5m of intersection corners, within 10m of bus stops, crosswalks), children's traffic safety slogans (Stop at step 1! Look both ways at step 2! Wait for 3 seconds! Prevent 4 dangers!), and banning smartphone use at crosswalks.
Since its launch, the Supporters have been conducting traffic safety campaigns at least once a month, relay challenges, and social media promotions to raise public awareness of traffic safety, elevating the observance of traffic safety order to a citizen movement level.
A participant in the Suncheon Traffic Safety Supporters said, "Although we continuously promote accident prevention for vulnerable groups such as children and pedestrians through campaigns, my heart sinks every time I see some drivers driving recklessly," adding, "We will continue our activities until a traffic safety culture is firmly established."
