One in Two Newlywed Couples in Changwon... 'Will Change Family Planning if Marriage Dream Loan is Implemented'
Low Birthrate Response Support Policy, 'Cash Support' Most Preferred
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Among newlywed couples residing in Changwon City, one out of two responded that they would consider changing their family plans if the Marriage Dream Loan were implemented.
The Marriage Dream Loan is a plan to provide a loan of 100 million KRW to couples getting married, with interest waived if they have one child within three years, a 30% reduction of the loan amount if they have two children within ten years, and a full loan forgiveness if they have three children within ten years.
First, the city conducted a survey targeting 463 couples who registered their marriage at five district offices' civil service centers from March 9 to April 22.
As a result, 40.4% of respondents said they were 'aware' of the Marriage Dream Loan.
Among them, 79.7% supported the implementation of the Marriage Dream Loan, and 51.9% said they would 'consider changing their family plans' if the loan were implemented.
Additionally, 86% have plans for children, with the desired number of children being '2' (50.7%) the most common, followed by '1' (38.0%), '3' (8.0%), and '4 or more' (1.6%).
Notably, 'cash support' (52.5%) was the most desired form of assistance, with a stronger preference for 'cash support' observed among people in their 20s.
Next, the city noted that this year, 2.5 times more households applied for the 'Newlywed Couple Jeonse Deposit Loan Interest Support Project,' which has been in effect since 2019, compared to previous years.
Based on the data from the applicant households, the city analyzed the family status of newlywed couples, including the number of children and the status of Jeonse deposit loans.
Among a total of 1,366 households, 28.8% of couples had no children, and 71.2% had children, with the average number of children among couples with children being 1.33.
In particular, the average housing rental cost was 149 million KRW, of which the average personal funds were 50 million KRW (33.6%), and the average Jeonse deposit loan amount was 99 million KRW (66.4%).
Thus, 100 million KRW is identified as the average financial loan amount for newlywed couples without housing. Considering the sharp increase in applicants for Jeonse deposit loan interest support, the need for policy support appears to be high.
