Dong-A Hwasung "Dong-A Fuel Cell Obtains Certification for High-Temperature Polymer Fuel Cell System... Promotes Distribution Project"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Dong-A Fuel Cell, a subsidiary of Dong-A Hwasung, announced on the 21st that its 5kW-class High Temperature Proton Exchanged Membrane Fuel Cell (HT-PEMFC) system passed the inspection by the Korea Gas Safety Corporation and obtained the gas equipment certification KGS AB934.
After obtaining domestic certification, Dong-A Fuel Cell plans to conduct a pilot project targeting hotels, hospitals, welfare facilities, and public buildings with high heat demand in the second half of 2021, and then promote full-scale distribution from 2022.
The domestic fuel cell market for buildings is currently being supplied mainly with PEMFCs in mandatory markets and eco-friendly building markets. Dong-A Fuel Cell’s next-generation polymer fuel cell technology, HT-PEMFC, is planned to be launched in the market focusing on buildings with abundant heat demand.
Dong-A Fuel Cell started as a research institute company in April 2019 based on the high-temperature polymer stack technology of the Korea Institute of Energy Research. It has secured proprietary technology for core stack materials such as gaskets and end plates, and also possesses commercialization technology for 5kW-class fuel cell systems.
To begin full-scale product sales in 2022, Dong-A Fuel Cell established a manufacturing plant for fuel cell system production in Seongnam in October 2020. The company is working on securing stability and reliability through tests simulating actual building electricity and heat demand, emergency stop operations, and reducing the cost of core components.

The company explained that through product certification, it has secured a foothold not only for domestic distribution but also for exports. In particular, by completing a heat-following smart operation method, it is expected that consumers will be able to select customized fuel cells. It is also expected to greatly contribute to government-led climate change response policies such as carbon neutrality and job creation.
