Recovery Trend with Foreign Films' Promotion in Theaters... 769,901 Weekend Audience
Quiet Place 2 Tops Box Office Charts
The theater industry continued its recovery thanks to the strong performance of foreign films. According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system, the number of moviegoers who visited theaters last weekend (18-20) was 769,901. This is the second highest weekend record this year. It increased by 145,520 compared to the second weekend of this month (11-13), which had 624,381 visitors.
The driving force behind the increase was foreign films. Nine out of the top 10 box office films were foreign. The movie that attracted the most viewers was A Quiet Place Part II. It drew 271,672 viewers across 1,124 screens (13,509 showings). It recorded a seat occupancy rate of 11.0% and a revenue share of 36.3%. The cumulative number of viewers reached 379,697.
Cruella attracted 162,729 viewers on 898 screens (6,694 showings). This was a 20.3% (41,374 viewers) decrease compared to the second weekend of this month, which had 204,103 viewers. Its seat occupancy rate (15.9%) was the highest among films securing more than 10,000 seats. The cumulative number of viewers was 1,225,481. The animated film Luca recorded 115,822 viewers on 854 screens (7,478 showings). Its seat occupancy rate was 10.6%, with a cumulative audience of 133,397.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It attracted 51,068 viewers on 614 screens (3,201 showings). This was a 67.8% (107,522 viewers) decrease compared to the second weekend of this month, which had 158,590 viewers. However, its seat occupancy rate (12.2%) was the second highest among films securing more than 10,000 seats. Whispering Corridors 6: The Humming was the only Korean film to enter the top 10 box office. It attracted 48,576 viewers on 603 screens (5,722 showings). Its seat occupancy rate was 6.3%, with a cumulative audience of 65,532.
