'Conflict Over Minor Accident Handling Fees' Bus Driver Found Dead After One Week Missing
[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] A city bus driver who was in conflict with his company over handling a minor traffic accident was found dead.
Today (the 19th), the Naju Police Station in Jeollanam-do announced that on the afternoon of the 18th, a city bus driver in his 50s, Mr. A, was found dead at a motel in Naju City. At the motel, partially burned charcoal briquettes were found, leading the police to suspect that Mr. A took his own life.
Mr. A had worked for a bus company for several years and was converted from a temporary to a regular employee last April. It was investigated that he had recently been in conflict with the company over handling a minor collision with another bus at a garage in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
After explaining his situation to the company, Mr. A requested insurance coverage, but the company responded that since he had been a regular employee for less than three months, he would have to bear the accident costs himself. It is known that Mr. A had frequently expressed severe financial difficulties to acquaintances around him.
On the 12th, Mr. A left home leaving behind a cellphone containing a suicide note. The next day, his family reported him missing. The police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident with the bus company and Mr. A’s bereaved family.
