The city announced on the 18th that "to control the Oriental mayfly, 630,000 crucian carp were released into Wolmuncheon, Deoksocheon, and Gungchoncheon streams in Wabu-eup, as well as the confluence point of the Han River."
This crucian carp release is a measure taken because the main habitat of the Oriental mayfly is included in the water source protection area, where the use of high-concentration insecticides is prohibited.
Previously, the city released 10,000 loaches last year and has been conducting control work using eco-friendly (organic) pesticides mainly along the Han River since April.
Additionally, the city signed a business agreement with Sahmyook University to develop a monitoring and control system for the Oriental mayfly, preparing effective eradication methods.
