Gwangjin-gu, First Nationwide to Provide Self-Test Kits to Families of Confirmed Cases Among Self-Quarantined Individuals
Support for Self-Test Kits for Confirmed Cases Among Cohabiting Family Members of Self-Isolated Individuals to Prevent Family Transmission... Strengthening Monitoring and Conducting Random Inspections of Self-Isolated Individuals
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) is implementing special quarantine measures to prevent the spread of infection among family members.
An investigation into the infection routes of confirmed cases that occurred in May revealed that 36.3% were cases of family transmission, and among them, 38% of confirmed cases were identified through symptom onset during self-quarantine or testing before release from quarantine.
When it is unavoidable for all family members in one household to self-quarantine, they are guided to always wear masks and isolate in separate spaces within the home, but sharing the same environment increases the possibility of additional infections.
Accordingly, Gwangjin-gu has been providing self-test kits from June 7th to cohabiting family members of confirmed cases among self-quarantined individuals who have a high likelihood of infection.
Self-test kits allow for rapid detection of infection status regardless of time and place, enabling early prevention of additional infections within families.
Currently, Seoul City is piloting self-test kits for high-risk facilities such as call centers, logistics centers, and dormitory schools, but Gwangjin-gu is the first to support self-test kits for self-quarantined individuals.
The self-test kits are distributed together with the ‘Self-Quarantine Hygiene Kit,’ and dedicated public officials provide one-on-one monitoring to guide usage and response methods in case of a positive result.
In addition, the district plans to strengthen monitoring of self-quarantined individuals by regularly sending images of quarantine rules to be observed during the quarantine period and conducting unannounced checks on quarantine compliance.

Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Self-test kits are supplementary tools, and even if the result is negative, we ask that quarantine rules be strictly followed during the quarantine period.” He added, “Following basic quarantine guidelines such as handwashing, serving food separately, and ventilating frequently is the way to protect your beloved family from COVID-19 infection.”
