This project is being carried out with the purpose of reducing carbon dioxide, the cause of global warming, and protecting ecosystems. LG Electronics aims to plant 47 million trees annually, equivalent to one tree per Spanish citizen, as a long-term goal. Including the 2.5 million trees planted by LG Electronics last year, more than 10 organizations such as Spanish public institutions, CO2 Revolution, and Carrefour have planted over 4 million trees in total up to last year.
LG Electronics Iberia established a Smart Green Home showroom and a Smart Green Garden near its office in 2019 as part of the Smart Green Project. The solar modules, eco-friendly boilers, and home energy storage systems in the Smart Green Home increase the use of renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions, while the 1,000 trees in the Smart Green Garden absorb 200 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
The Smart Green Project was also introduced by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez at the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit held on the 30th of last month. P4G is an international coalition launched in 2017 to respond to climate change and achieve sustainable development goals together, involving governments, companies, and civic organizations.
