Department Store Cultural Center Classes Revive, Summer Semester Demand More Than Doubles Year-on-Year
Cooking Masters’ Classes Share Online Secrets... Showcasing Various PB Products
Masters like Choi Jong-dae, Ji Min-jeong, Kwon Ki-ok... Famous Owner Chefs Jeong Ho-young, Eom Hyun-jung Also Offering Classes
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Lotte Department Store announced on the 13th that it is planning special classes by cooking masters, sharing their secrets online, and showcasing a variety of products used in the recipes.
Lotte Department Store stated that cultural center classes, which had been stagnant due to COVID-19, have recently regained vitality. Offline classes are now focused on small-scale sessions with various themes, while high-demand classes such as cooking and financial management are primarily conducted online. As a result, applications for this summer semester’s cultural center classes have more than doubled compared to the previous year. The department store explained, "Enrollment has increased by more than 25% compared to the spring semester," adding, "Especially due to the COVID-19 'stay-at-home' trend, popular cooking classes are mostly sold out early."
Lotte Department Store said that masters from the premium food brand newly launched in March, 'Celeb’s Pick,' will directly participate in an online relay cooking class. Celeb’s Pick is a brand that offers a variety of products and meal kits selected by domestic food celebrities, including food masters and culinary researchers. Thanks to strong customer demand for premium ingredients, the number of items has tripled and supply has greatly expanded within three months of launch.
This is the first time Celeb’s Pick masters are conducting classes at Lotte Department Store. The first class held in early June by master Choi Jong-dae was fully booked on a first-come, first-served basis and received high satisfaction, according to the department store. In July, master Ji Min-jeong will conduct a class, followed by master Kwon Ki-ok in August. Instead of classrooms, the classes will be filmed at the masters’ homes to allow participants to experience the authentic atmosphere of their workshops.
Lotte Department Store also prepared a special collaborative cooking class with Sangsaeng Sanghoe to support fishermen and boost domestic consumption in line with the 2021 Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Korea Fisheries Expo theme. On the 15th at 2 p.m., a cooking class using 'Gamtai' by culinary researcher and famous chef Jeong Ho-young will be held. Unlike previous classes, anyone can watch the live class online via Lotte Department Store’s 100LIVE. Ingredients and tableware used in the class can be purchased through linked Lotte ON links. In July, a cooking class featuring 'Myeongran' by famous owner chef Eom Hyun-jung is scheduled.
Detailed information and registration for the classes are available on the Lotte Department Store Cultural Center website.

Hyun Jong-hyuk, Head of Customer Experience at Lotte Department Store, said, "Due to COVID-19, offline classes have shifted to small-scale sessions, making them more expensive but more satisfying, while online classes are gaining more applicants thanks to convenience. Offline classes will continue to offer unique experiences only possible in person, and online classes will be continuously introduced as popular courses accessible to many customers."
